My First Squad
This Catachan squad was one of two squads that I purchased that fateful day. A friend of mine showed me this cool wargame called Warhammer 40k. I was immediately hooked. He thought it would be a good idea for me to play Imperial Guard (screw astra milita….), only because no one else was. Not knowing much about the game, I found this squad of Catachan jungle fighters and a squad of Tallarn desert fighters. I snatched them up and went home and started piecing them together.
I was 16 and had already started modeling cars. I might still have one in storage, but by 16 I think I was on my fourth car and so I had glue, hobby knives, brushes and enamel paints (Testors). I started assembling the miniatures right away, not even cleaning up some of the metal casting lines. I didn’t even prime the miniatures, just started painting. I had them done in a couple days and have been playing with them ever since. I am now 40 and I thought it was time to upgrade the paint job.
I was never happy with the paint job and they chipped often, due them being pewter and heavy. So I decided that I would strip the paint and start all over. I had just started my new journey into Acrylic paints and thought this would be a good starting point. Though I have had these on the shelf waiting for me to figure out how to paint their skin. I now know what I want and am going to get to painting these soon. In the meantime check out this video of my 24 year old paint job I did at 16! And while you are there, check out the other painting videos I have on my YouTube channel.
